Columbia City Theater

Join us on August 28th to experience Seattle’s most accomplished artists displaying why we call this city, Home Of The Mighty. Each of these acts excels at breaking down genre barriers, incorporating limitless sounds and traditions, and ultimately defining the Seattle sound. They’re not just HipHop, not just Jazz, and none of them are content supporting the status quo. We hope you’ll come share in the celebration! 21+ / $8 presale tix available here: Industrial Revelation: The fact that City Arts labeled Industrial Revelation “the best rock band in Seattle” is as ironic as it is telling. Of course they’re not the traditional rock band, and if you’d only seen their stage set up you’d be right to assume they were a Jazz act, but the experience of seeing them perform will leave you with no doubt… they are certainly the best rock band in Seattle, and probably the best Jazz band and HipHop band too. All told, their ability to constantly transcend our expectations probably makes them the best band in Seattle. Period. Spekulation: Spekulation has spent the last several years building a reputation as one of the city’s most versatile producers and performers. Just this year he has produced the viral Seahawks anthem, “Bout That Action”, released a movie score featured in the New York Times, and most recently the critically acclaimed single, Home Of The Mighty. Spekulation’s stage show is just as ambitious as his studio work, incorporating an 8-piece band, along with DJ Absolute Madman and bassist/composer Nate Omdal. His performance borrows plenty from Seattle’s musical traditions, and uses them all to put on the dopest rap show in town. Julie C: In addition to being one of the most skilled lyricists in The Town, Julie C has been a pioneering force in this generation’s ability to use music and HipHop to effect social change. Her work gives voice to the voiceless, both as an emcee and community organizer, and her ability to rock a crowd is second to none. It’s this mix of consciousness and artistic sensibility that puts her at the top of her class, and also shines a light on the potential of Seattle’s music community. Wizdumb: It’s easy to find beatmakers who borrow from the Jazz tradition, but it’s a very rare thing to find a HipHop producer who manages to carry on that tradition, pushing it to new places. As a collector, Wizdumb’s knowledge of 20th century Jazz and Soul music is unmatched, and he is able to use that experience to create head-nodding live performances that transport the listener between the past and the future while always being present. He is the embodiment of HipHop’s potential to carry the torch that was lit by Jazz music. Diogenes: You won’t find a more resourceful or flexible beatmaker anywhere in Seattle, at least not one who can consistently craft infectious songs and rock a party that way Diogenes can. From cassette tapes to casios to boomboxes to samplers, Diogenes manages to string together a deep assortment of found sounds and gear to shape his performances, each one a little different than the last. He makes dope HipHop music, but not like anyone else on this planet.

Veteran DJ's as well as skilled producers, the guys have only recently honed their craft, yet their releases have catalyzed a devout following, garnered millions of listens, and even has seen them craft their own genre dubbed "Heaven Trap." Even with their rapid rise, they are no stranger to support from some top producers (who have now have become their peers). After cultivating a personal relationship with DJ Snake at a show they played together, Snake played their Showtek remix at EDC Mexico and invited them to hang in Las Vegas at his residency. Carnage also has been a fan of their sound, playing a (different) remix of theirs at each of his Coachella performances. Diplo not only played their "Awooga" remix on his radio show (championed by , he also rinsed it at his Club Nokia performance in Los Angeles, CA. Slander has a huge following all across the USA and with a high-energy live set they are poised to be wrecking venues all across North America this summer.

Chop Suey

Chop Suey Presents Mother of Pearl Born from the minds & hearts of five abnormally gifted Seattle musicians, Mother Of Pearl has been leaving a rare, powerful impression on the minds & hearts of music lovers throughout the Seattle area, beginning with their live debut in November 2013. Drawing from a widely-cast net of influences (listeners have reported traces of rock/pop/jazz/r&b/electronica, among many other genres) and an embarrassment of riches in the musicianship department (each member ranks among Seattle's most in-demand studio musicians), the band has quickly established renown for their meticulously crafted & distinctive songwriting, their commanding live shows & their utterly seamless ensemble mentality. Mother Of Pearl are currently preparing for the release of their debut single "Our Love/These Walls" (coming soon on 7" vinyl & digital download). C-Leb & the Kettle Black Seattle-based blues-styled band, C-Leb and his buddies borrow heavily from traditional blues, but dress it up in modern rhythms, dance beats and driving rock funk. This is the outfit’s debut album and is a powerful collection of self-penned tunes that runs the gamut from driving rock to heavy blues through to some jazzy-styled numbers. The abrasive “Hell Don’t Pay Taxes” borrows lyrically from Merle Travis “16 Tons,” whilst the pounding “One For the Road” nods affectionately in the direction of Creedence Clearwater Revival. The kicking “Man Down” is just a little lighter, allowing the lead guitar work to shine out front of the swirling and hypnotic keyboards and the staccato rhythmic attack. A compelling rock record very much for today headbangers. Fires Powerlounge rock from Ballard, Wa -- $7 cover // 8pm // 21+
