On November 12th at 7 PM we have another edition of Cine Expat, where we screen foreign language films with English subtitles. We’ll screen The Square, a satirical drama from Swedish director Ruben Östlund (Force Majeure), that won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Filmfestival. Come and join our host Helena P for network drinks after the film. Christian (Claes Bang) is the head of a prestigious museum in Stockholm. He is intelligent, well dressed and the most important curator in town. To keep up with the demanding international art scene, Christian is always on the lookout for remarkable projects. For his latest stunt he has come up with The Square: an enclosed space in which people are told to behave responsibly. Things take a turn for the worse when Christian’s phone gets stolen in front of The Square. The Square is the latest film from director Ruben Östlund. In 2015 he made the remarkable family drama/comedy Force Majeure (Turist), which also revolved around a phone. When a (controlled) avalanche is set to hit the restaurant where Tomas and his family are lunching, he grabs his phone and fleeds the scene, leaving his wife and children. With The Square, Östlund proves yet again what a terrific filmmaker he is.
