State Library of Queensland and Oral History Queensland (OHQ) invite you to a panel discussion on the practice of interviewing vulnerable subjects whose experiences are often chosen for their emotional vulnerability, powerlessness, trauma or despair. Moderated by OHQ President Margaret Ridley, the panel will explore the methodology and the ethical concerns of interviewing subjects who are at risk. Speakers include: Anne MonsourAuthor and professional Historian, Ann has conducted oral history interviews for the National Library of Australia (Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants Oral History project) and the Medical Board of Queensland. She is author of Not Quite White: Lebanese and the White Australia Policy 1880 to 1947(Post Pressed, 2010), several journal articles and book chapters, and editor of Raw Kibbeh: Generations of Lebanese Enterprise (2009) and Here to Stay: Lebanese in Toowoomba and South West Queensland (2012). Ann is the current President of the Australian Lebanese Historical Society Inc. Jo Besley Jo is well known for her work in the GLAM and museum sector across Queensland. Jo will draw on her curatorial experience in looking at the shift from history to memory and share her experiences in Remembering Goodna: stories from a Queensland mental hospital., the Museum of Brisbane exhibition that was undertaken in partnership with Queensland Health through The Park – Centre for Mental Health (as Wolston Park is now known) and Professor Mark Finnane, Griffith University. Kevin Cocks Reflecting on 25 years since the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 was adopted in Queensland, Kevin will discuss his personal fight against discrimination and the rights of all citizens of Queensland.
