Scotland's islands fascinate. So, too, do maps. This richly illustrated talk brings together these two geographical themes to examine and illuminate the mapping of Scotland's islands, from their first infrequent cartographic appearances in the late sixteenth century to the commonplace mapping (and computer-led cartographic obliteration) of the country's islands in the twenty-first century. The talk will suggest that mapping Scotland's islands has not been a straightforward task. For what, after all, is an island? And what is a map?
