Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) announces its 2017-2018 Community Concert Series: Music for Everyone. As with all the PVUMC community concerts, there are no tickets or fees. A free-will offering will be taken at each of the concerts, in support of the series and the participating musicians. Free, high-quality childcare is available at each event with a 48-hour reservation, making this a great date night. To reserve a spot for your child(ren) in our Childcare Center, please call the church at 602-840-8360, ext 134, at least 48 hours before the event. Friday, November 10, 2017, 7 pm in the SanctuaryWe3 We3 is comprised of vocalist Renee Grant Patrick, pianist/keyboardist Nicole Pesce, and violinist Suzanne Lansford. We3 entertains audiences of all ages with styles that include jazz, swing, blues, standards, world music, pop and R&B. Recent performances include: Phoenix Theatre, The Nash, and Jazz in the Hills at the Emerson Art Gallery. Sunday, December 10, 2017, 6 pm* in the Sanctuary (NOTE date/time* change)Christmas at PVUMC — Gloria! As the holidays approach, you're invited to usher in the Christmas season with the PVUMC Christmas Concert: Gloria! on Sunday, December 10 at 6 pm. Please note that this event is on a Sunday, not a Friday, and at an earlier time than most of the other concerts in the series. Enjoy Christmas music performed by PVUMC's children, youth and adult choirs, with handbells and instrumental music. The Chancel Choir will perform the Randol Alan Bass “Gloria.” The concert also features The Warehouse Brass, a brass quintet featuring two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. This event weaves music, poetic texts and audience sing-a-longs for an uplifting evening fitting of the season. A dessert reception follows in the Fellowship Center. Friday, January 12, 2018, 7 pm in the SanctuaryPhoenix Girls Chorus – Bella and Cantabile Choirs oin us as we welcome the Bella and Cantabile Choirs of the Phoenix Girls Chorus on Friday, January 12, at 7:00pm. Founded in 1981 by Daniel Hooper, the Phoenix Girls Chorus has delighted and entertained audiences throughout Arizona and around the world. Under the direction of Ms. Danya Tiller, Artistic Director, our top level performing ensemble, Cantabile, won first place in their choir division and was also awarded a gold diploma for their excellence in performance at the Franz Schubert International Choral Competition. The Phoenix Girls Chorus has a wide musical repertoire including classical, sacred, folk, contemporary choral literature, Broadway pieces and foreign language selections. The Chorus has performed for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phoenix Symphony, the AZ House of Representatives, Governor Janet Napolitano, and made numerous radio and television appearances. The Bella and Cantabile choirs have taken part in prestigious choral festivals throughout the United States and including Canada, Germany, France, England, Wales, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Friday, February 23, 2018, 7 pm in the SanctuaryA Night on Broadway Enjoy selections from famous Broadway musicals, featuring the talented musicians of PVUMC. The concert includes solo, duet and ensemble numbers from both professional vocalists and talented volunteers of all ages, who are accompanied by a live band. Tommy Strawser, assistant music and arts director at PVUMC, emcees the performance and directs the youth choir. Friday, March 16, 2018, 7 pm in the SanctuaryJácome Flamenco presents TABLAO TABLAO is an electrifying and powerful show featuring two world-renown flamenco dancers, a singer and guitarist. TABLAO brings the intimacy and intensity of this captivating Andalucian art form directly to you so you'll feel as if you're in Sevilla, Spain. TABLAO is the best of traditional flamenco with brilliant modern elements. Friday, April 20, 2018, 7 pm on the Paradise Perk Patio at PVUMC * (Please note that this is an outside event, not in the sanctuary.)Jazz at the Perk: Brett Reed Trio Join us for an evening of great jazz and great coffee on Friday, April 20, at 7 pm for a concert under the stars at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. We welcome some of Phoenix' top jazz musicians, featuring Brett Reed on vibraphone. Brett Reed is a performer and composer specializing in contemporary and improvised music. He regularly performs as a solo percussionist, as a member of several ensembles, including Crossing 32nd Street, Skin & Bones, a percussion duo he co-founded with Terry Longshore, and as a jazz vibraphonist in solo and ensemble settings. Take a seat on the patio, settle back and enjoy the show on the Paradise Perk patio, while you sip hot or cold beverages and enjoy snacks from our own Paradise Perk.
