HERTHA HANSON OPENING THURSDAY 19 JANUARY, 5-8PM RUNS THROUGH 19 FEBRUARY 2017 Layers converge into dense patches of saturation, while vanishing traces dart across the canvases in Hertha Hanson's new series of paintings. The paint is applied to create space, movement, and rhythm on the surface. Broad strokes of color move dynamically across the canvas, forming bodies of color resembling vegetative forms. In "The past is never dead. It is not even past", Hanson's third solo exhibition at ANNAELLEGALLERY, the artist presents a new series of abstract paintings, embracing their physical form. The series comprises canvases of varying scale, size and color, with visible brushstrokes revealing the artist's hand. The brush and the palette knife are thus not only tools, but an extension of the body. The paintings become active time capsules of their own creation, increasingly reinventing themselves toward their complex spatiality. Hertha Hanson has published a catalogue, with a text by Thomas Millroth, to accompany this exhibition. Hertha Hanson (1980) lives and works in Karlstad, Sweden. In 2009, she received an MFA from Malmö Art Academy. Her work has previously been shown at Moderna Museet Malmö, Kristinehamns konstmuseum, Malmö konstmuseum, Lund Konsthall, Luleå Konsthall, Lund Cathedral, Vargåkra gård, Galleri Arnstedt, etc. She has received numerous awards such as Kristinehamns Artist Award, Ellen Trotzig, Fredrik Roos, Bror Hjort.
